About Calvary SonRise

Our story

The events that led to Calvary SonRise happened quickly, showing God’s hand in its creation. In four years, a group of believers went from a home fellowship to a home church to a congregation meeting in a church building.

  1. 2010November

    A Bible study in Winneconne

The original members of the Bible study began fellowshipping at a home in Winneconne. Most of them lived in Oshkosh, so the group soon moved into the city, meeting at a variety of homes.

  2. 2011May

    A home church

By May 2011 the group gathered every Saturday night at Clint and Sarah Laird’s home. From then until January 2015, Clint Laird gave a weekly lesson from the Word and Mitch Nehring led praise and worship, much like the roles they still fill today as pastor and worship leader.

  3. 2015February

    203 Otter Avenue

After much prayer and consideration, the home church began looking for a more permanent (or so they thought) place of worship. The Lord provided a small office building at 203 Otter Avenue: the former Fluor Brothers building, a historic brick structure in the heart of the city.

It needed major renovations, but the Lord provided many volunteers and the resources to make the old office building a house of worship. The church began meeting there in February 2015.

    Room to grow

By summer 2018, the leadership realized the church needed more space to minister to those attending. But how could they move so soon after acquiring the Otter Avenue building? If God wanted them to move, He would have to make a way. And He did.

  5. Today

    222 Church Avenue

The Lord was behind the many details of acquiring a larger, existing church building. Our home at 222 Church Avenue keeps the ministry downtown and gives the church the space and resources it needs to serve God as He leads.

Our vision

Our vision is to teach the Bible verse by verse to equip the saints to be ambassadors of Christ. The whole counsel of God’s truth is taught from Genesis to Revelation, and we’re excited to see who the Lord brings through our doors each week to hear His Word.
